For a transmission manufacturer in the Light duty on highway industry BRACE worked on the development of a universal data logger tool. The project was to build a data logger that could log vehicle parameters on a number of different vehicles for benchmark purposes. All the test vehicles were from model year 2012 or newer. Easy configuration and fast exchange of the equipment were required.
Based on the combination of CAN-bus and OBD knowledge, BRACE developed a data logger system that can read vehicle data at relative high sample rate, but also includes the option for easily and fast exchange between vehicles with limited configuration time. The data logger system is based on the CAN-bus system of the vehicle.
An extra wish from the client was to log an extra analog sensor output during all the measurements. BRACE developed an extra system that converts analog input signal to a CAN output signal. With this device is it possible to log the data from the external analog sensor and the vehicle data in the same file.
BRACE also supported the vehicle measurements at the customer in order to log and save all the files. The logged files held 8 byte CAN-messages. After the measurement the raw data was converted to readable sensor data. Thereafter the sensor data was delivered to the customer.
